For the past 38 days, citizens across Albania have been protesting in Tirana and other cities throughout the country, while Albanians living abroad have also organized demonstrations in solidarity.
The protests oppose the sale of Albanian territory and public assets, including Law No. 21/2024, the Mountain Package Law, legislation concerning the sale of agricultural land, and laws related to strategic investors in protected areas. Protesters are also demanding improvements in education, healthcare, justice, meritocracy, transparency, and stronger action against corruption. They argue that Albania's political class has failed to address these issues over the past 35 years.
As part of this civic initiative, many citizens have launched a consumer boycott targeting businesses they believe are closely connected to oligarchic interests, as well as media outlets they accuse of failing to provide balanced coverage of the protests and instead favoring government narratives.
The boycott currently includes restaurants, shopping centers, supermarkets, hotels, media outlets, and other businesses.
